Heat Pumps

What is a Heat Pump?

Heat pumps are a heating and cooling unit in one. The Heat Pump sits outside the home and the fan coil is inside the home. Heat Pumps are also an all electric system which allows homes, with no natural gas or homes wishing to move away from natural gas, have an alternative system. These systems are installed the same as a traditional split heating and air conditioning system. Because they are all electric your electrical panel will need to be inspected to make sure there is enough room to accommodate a Heat Pump system.

How to they work?

During the winter, Heat Pumps extract heat from the outdoor air and transfer it indoors through the duct work. There are also strip heaters that are installed to help the heating demand on the very cold outdoor days. During the Summer, in cooling mode, the heat is pulled from the indoor air and transferred outside, which then air coming back into the home blows across the coil of the indoor unit to bring the indoor temperature down.
